… than what meets the eye.  Unless you’ve done some research or caught a Dr. Oz segment on the dangers of the flooring industry, you may not be aware at how toxic carpet, laminate, and vinyl floors can be to your family and even pets.  This is why we firmly believe in souring sustainable, eco-friendly hardwood floors when possible.

I must admit … being a girl and all … that I appreciate how a floor looks. Especially if our family is going to use our hard earned dollars on making it happen.

Unfortunately, these days the top criteria when searching for new flooring is:

  1. What does it look like?
  2. What is the cost?

We’re not made of money either so I can relate if you have to consider the expected cost before committing. Truth is, when you expand your perspective up and begin to consider other factors, the investment in truly sustainable hardwood flooring might become a better fit for you and your family.

Not only do quality hardwood floors seem to last for an eternity, making it a one time investment … it is also far more friendly to your home and our planet. So now I beg you to ask this question of your prospective flooring …

How sustainable is it?

This can be taken apart on many levels. And for times sake and sanity today, let’s just start skimming the surface.

You can find articles all over the internet … some from organizations like the EWG (Environmental Working Group) and CDC. Many more from web influencers like The Spruce or Market Watch and even from “mom’s on a mission“.

Many flooring options contain toxic chemicals like phthalates, lead, cadmium, brominated flame retardants, and other toxic chemicals. This may not sound like a big deal because you aren’t exactly eating off your floors (unless you follow the 7 second rule!) …

But it is.

Especially if you have little ones that spend the majority of their life on the floor!

laminate and vinyl flooring is toxic to your home and toxic to our environment.

If this is something totally new to you, I encourage you to keep exploring and doing your own research. If you are skeptical … even more reason to try to expand your mind for a moment and consider that those big businesses out there are fully aware that many consumers are ONLY concerned with the LOOK and the PRICE.

Dig deep. Open your mind. Consider the impact you have here. Its time we all start focusing on reducing our carbon footprint where we can.

We love that we get to offer people a sustainable and truly natural source of flooring for their homes … knowing that what we are creating is also in alignment with the environment. Being able to TIMBER a tree that someone else would have chopped up into mulch or firewood, and turn into beautiful hardwood flooring that can last a lifetime and then some … is so rewarding! We hope you’ll join in our mission and please spread the word!!
