After a great date night in the woodshop, Isaiah has taken the raw pine slabs that have been in the drying pile since he brought them home from the sawmill after cutting down an old pine tree for a client that wanted it removed.  I LOVE that we can re-purpose a tree into sustainable, eco-friendly hardwood floors that will last a lifetime!

We planed them, he ripped them and we created totally custom tongue and groove hardwood flooring to go into the kids closet.  (Check out that process in this post…)

While the girls were gone, the boys took over on prepping the floors and laying down a moisture barrier before the nailing started.

This is another trick that makes hardwood floors last a lifetime …

nailing down the floor boards is more secure and we appreciate the look and feel of flush mount transitions.  Not to mention, we avoid having to use glue and additional toxic chemicals in the process … making it a truly cleaner choice.

Isaiah and Hunter measured up and cut the boards.  After they got them all nailed down, the sanding process starts!

Being that we didn’t want to take everything out of the closet and fly dust everywhere, the handheld Festool Hand Sander with Dust Extraction Vacuum set up was perfect. It creates virtually no mess and it’s as smooth as baby Clara’s backside!  =)

Hunter gives it the final sanding coat while the girls watch in appreciation for their hard work and admire the beautiful new pine hardwood floors!

We’re still deciding on the final coat and finish but for now … we’re wrapping it up so the kids can play in the closet again!!

So grateful for these “new”, sustainable, NON-TOXIC, earth-friendly hardwood floors that we hope we get to enjoy for a really long time.
